monty python + loteria (#3 of 99)

have much catching up to do…sunday 4 oct found us in hollywood (affectionately known as HoHo) guffawing at some well-known and loved monty python skits. in a town known for movies, i think theatre is overlooked. but maybe that’s because i’ve been doing the overlooking. london has theatre history and new york has broadway. los angeles has screen actors doing a silly walk on stage, making innuendos (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) and spouting raunchy euphemisms (is your wife a go-er? does she go?). oh, wait, that’s just monty python on stage.

it was their last performance in a theatre only half full, but i still chuckled heartily because nobody expects the spanish inquisition. the ricardo montalban theatre is small and simple. not nearly as grand as the orpheum where we saw alanis for the second time, but intimate enough to see plenty of facial expressions. i am not one that is easily starstruck, but it was fun to see jane leeves and alan tudyk on stage and get a glimpse of julian sands near the ticket counter as we left.

sunday was the first day of autumn for me. it was chilly with a warm sun that cast long shadows along storefronts and the sidewalk. m and i spent the afternoon walking along hollywood boulevard (for the first time) enjoying the poignant memories that accompany such weather. the grittiness of hollywood reminded us of chicago and the with the imminent chill in the air, i could almost imagine that winter was quickly approaching. the reality is that i will have autumn (or san francisco weather) for the next 8 months. yay!

(just when you thought this blog entry couldn’t get any longer…it doesn’t. see the next entry.)
