adobe RGB versus sRGB

ran into a snag with uploading photos and spent the past 3 days troubleshooting it. i’m reasonably caught up but have millions of pixels more to post in new camera photos. i was watching a video yesterday and the differences between adobe RGB and sRGB color spaces came up. apparently, not all machines play well with adobe RGB so jpgs exported/saved in sRGB are more universally accepted. i have been saving images in adobe RGB for a couple of years now (only because i heard it has a wider color range and i wanted that to get conveyed to my epson r2880) but i never really understood the difference until i watched this video and put my monarch images side by side.

here’s what i mean:

comparison

adobe RGB (left); sRGB (right)

granted, these images are now in PNG format, but the adobe RGB image on the left has more contrast, color, and definition than the sRGB one on the right. unfortunately, the monarch gallery is exported in sRGB because i didn’t perform this experiment until i had already decided on a new solution to my image upload problem but in the future, adobe RGB. always.
