I love my coffee mug. I take it almost everywhere. Now I can take it on my crutches. The little creature comforts are going 2 become very important.

MRI
I was @ cedars today. Again. This time for my hip MRI. The best part was when the guy helped me out of the machine and his name tag was getting sucked into the tube. He kept moving around and leaning but his name tag stayed in the same place in mid-air. We spent almost the same amount of time talking about my vibram fivefingers as I did getting my hip scanned. The other cool thing was that my crutches fit in my valuables locker. The advantages of being short. I probably shouldn’t find that cool but I don’t get out nearly enough. At least not anymore.
iPad
my baby loves me. She bought me an iPad so I can have fun while I get better. Who needs apple stock when you can just get all the toys? thanks, m.
Parking tard
blogging la is how I found out about parking tards. Today, I saw one of my own and couldn’t resist. I had a front row seat for this parking brilliance – she didn’t even hesitate.
bone scan
i have been debating on whether or not to make this my new outlet for all things medical (e.g., yellow diaries). i got aforementioned iPhone the day after i found out that my xray was abnormal. so i’ve been obsessed with my iPhone and mastering every feature and shortcut and, at the same time, giving myself over to medicine to fix what is broken. there has been a lot of waiting and wondering. finally, i saw a bone cancer doc – let the tests begin! but it’s better than waiting.
i had to ask the technician how a bone scan works. basically, a radioactive isotope combined with/containing a phosphorus compound is injected into my bloodstream. since bone naturally absorbs phosphorus, the bone also absorbs the isotope. the bone doesn’t realize the compound is radioactive. absorption takes about 3 hours. therefore, i found myself with a radioactive substance floating around inside my body and crutches on the outside of my body and i had to keep myself busy for 3 hours (iPhone very handy for this type of thing).
(fast forward 3 hours…)
the scanning machine picks up on the isotope and the images of my bones are recorded by the camera. the device works best at close range so i spent an hour supine as cameras took pictures of my front and back from head to toe. a few of my body parts (ankles, knees, and side view of hips) got special cameo roles. the camera plate was literally hovering just above every surface of my body. initially i was draped with a heavy white blanket and secured with a large velcro belt to keep me still while being scanned. a straitjacket image comes to mind, but it was cozy and warm – completely non-threatening. i even got a pillow and a support for my knees. the scanner wasn’t like an MRI tube but with the plate close to the tip of my nose, a slightly darkened room, and my “cotton envelope,” i found myself drifting off into a light, daydreamy sleep throughout the hour.
iPhone4
I’m the proud new owner of an iPhone. I gave up on BB’s poor web browsing + bad apps. I still miss the QWERTY keypad but everything else is *hot*.
new project
if this writing thing is ever going to take off, i’ll need a shiny, new vocabulary. (well, not really, but it never hurts to look more pretentious by having a *huge* vocabulary). hence:
two-mur
i have a tumor in my femur. this is unexpected. now what?
new zealand potatoes (yams!)
they look like pinecones or larvae. i’m not sure these are potatoes. they are sweet. google isn’t helping me figure out what they are:
update: m found them: they are oca (Oxalis tuberosa; new zealand yams). i’m so web retarded…
this is my life
“If you’re running a project where you mock up designs, get them approved, code them up, build a CMS, hook it all together, and then everyone looks around and says “Who’s got the content? Wait, this content doesn’t match the designs and it won’t fit in the CMS!” then you have a problem. A big problem.” – Karen McGrane
