time for a change

playing around with new color scheme…may or may not look good if you are looking at it *right* now. there are so many color possibilities, it’s hard to know where to begin.

UPDATE: did you see that blue? no way. working on full blown redesign. the cerulean blue needs a modern design.

CSS gem

I designed a web site a while back that is no longer in use. It had a curved horizontal navigation menu. The rollover was achieved using CSS and moving the image on hover. There was one issue that concerned me, but I couldn’t find or, rather, didn’t look very hard for the solution: in the focus and active states, the image outline would show. It was distracting. I just discovered that if I had put the rule “outline:none;” on the focus and active states, the dotted lines would disappear. Perhaps I should reread my CSS book.

taste tests

it all started with 2 different sugars (la perruche vs roland demarara). then we moved on to two different burgers (pie n burger vs apple pan). now we are back to sugar with 2 more sugars to add to the mix: dark muscovado sugar and heritage palm sugar. i am just crazy enough that i weighed out the sugar and the tea for our first sugar review. when dissolved in black lavender tea, i found the la perruche to be sweeter with a nutty finish. i found the demarara to be less intrusive but in some cases, i think i’d need more of it achieve appropriate sweetness. it appears that i will have to sit down with 4 different cups of tea to continue my comparison.

First friday

We finally made it to the monthly food truck fest in Venice. We swwooped into LAX to pick up NM and then consumed copious quantities of mobile food: takoyaki truck for octopus balls (shape, not anatomy), phamish (for banh mi), frysmith truck (for some crazy beef and and chili concoction over french fries), grilled cheese truck (the signature: cheesy mac and rib) and coolhaus (mint between a chocolate chip and a chocolate cookie and pear sorbet between snickerdoodles). First fridays is more than just a cluster of food trucks along abbott kinney, but who needs any more than that?

self-identity

i’ve been on crutches for so long that they have become part of how i see myself. when i get up, i involuntarily reach for them. when i imagine myself doing things, i see myself swinging along on two sticks. only once did i get up and not think about using them (and then i chastised myself so hard that i erased any and all memory of not using crutches). i’ve even learned how to carry large, awkward objects and still use crutches effectively (the key is using one’s hip to push the crutch along when one’s hand is carrying aforementioned awkward item). but in exactly 11 minutes, i get to put 60 lbs of pressure on my left leg and then i’m only a few weeks away from having to develop a new self-identity.

You didn’t…

I did. I just signed up for a twitter account because my honey wants to follow some LA food trucks. so i guess the real question now is: do i use the iphone’s location function to tweet where i’m at or use facebook’s location services to share my “places” with my friends (all 8 of them)? eee gad, this social networking business is both tedious and redundant. which is why i enjoy my blog where only 2 people can comment and less than 3 people know it exists.

Underwhelming. Disappointing. Just plain sad.

Oops…I wasn’t supposed to steal M’s thunder.
